Probably because there's no beach at Porto Colom, the town has been spared the worst excesses of mass tourism and over development. The town has grown round the edge of an excellent natural harbour on the east coast of Mallorca, and is a downbeat and friendly place. Named for Christopher Columbus (Cristóbal Colón), it's no surprise that some of the streets have links to the great navigator.
The two star Hotel Estoril can be found on La Pinta street, just one road back from the sea. It's a small hotel, part of the Inturco Group, with no great pretensions, in a quiet area which would probably suit older couples and families.
