Description
On this guided walking tour, visit Palma's historic old town and the Cathedral of Mallorca, led by a licensed local guide. Learn about the city's origins, development, and key historical moments through engaging stories and landmarks.
Inside the Cathedral, discover its architectural progression through three major interventions:
- Reconstruction of the main portal in the late 19th century
- Antoni Gaudí’s reform between 1904 and 1914, commissioned by Bishop Joan Pere Campins
- Contemporary artwork by Miquel Barceló (2007) in the Chapel of Sant Pere
The guide will explain Palma’s evolution from Roman times to the present, including the Cathedral’s construction phases, different historical names, artistic treasures, and notable facts such as why it is called La Seu, who is buried inside, and key dates.
After exploring the Cathedral, continue through the medieval streets of Palma’s old town, seeing traditional Mallorcan courtyards, the parish church of Santa Eulàlia, the Royal Convent of Sant Francesc, Plaça de Cort, and remnants of the former Jewish quarter.
