Gordiola Glassworks and Museum
Mallorca
The Gordiola family has been involved in the craft and business of making decorative and functional works of glass since 1719. This rather ugly building alongside the Palma - Manacor highway is very much younger than that, despite its crenellated walls, but the traditions and methods developed by the family over the centuries continue to be practised by craftsmen today.
Starting from the upper level, the museum houses a large and fascinating collection of pieces tracing the manufacturing history of the glass works, , the history of glassmaking itself, and also examples of glassware from different countries and themes, such as perfume bottles.
Downstairs, you can watch the current crop of craftsmen at work, creating their pieces, before wandering through the display and gift shop areas, where there is a huge collection of hand crafted items. Large or small, functional or decorative, beautiful or not so beautiful, the quantity and range of products is simply amazing.
