Santueri Castle

This mountain castle commands excellent views over much of south west Mallorca from its dominant position on a plateau of some 475 metres. This place has been the site of fortifications for centuries and was certainly used by the Romans and the Arabs, with the present fortress being built in the 14th century.

It has a certain brooding and forbidding air about it, and has long been thought of as a ghostly place - perfect for a moonlight visit, perhaps!

At present, entry to the buildings is not possible, but remedial work has now been carried out and it is expected to re-open to the public in 2012, after a gap of 10 years. In the maentime, the exterior walls and the marvellous views can still be enjoyed.
