Palma de Mallorca Airport Information

Palma de Mallorca airport (previously known as Son Sant Joan) is 8 kilometers East of Palma de Mallorca and is within the island capital's municipal area. The airport is easily accessed from the fine motorway network (toll free) and a tram link with Palma is planned for construction in the near future. The airport is the 3rd largest in Spain, after Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona and in summer it is one of the busiest in Europe.

The airport is well signposted and it's fairly easy to work out what's where – however you may have to deal with quite long distances between aircraft and ground transport and vice versa. The usual facilities of shops, currency exchange and café/restaurants are provided, and prices don't seem to be overly inflated.

Arriving passengers who have made advance arrangements for mallorca airport car hire or other transfer, or who have booked through a tour operator, will be met by a company representative in the arrivals hall on the ground floor. Travelers who have not made advance arrangements will find cubicles on that floor where transport and accommodation arrangements can be made directly – you may be in for a long wait though, even at quiet times.

Departure check-in is done on the second floor, with border formalities and actual boarding on the fourth floor. Don't forget it may be a considerable distance to your boarding gate.

Taxis and buses can be found right outside the doors and some of the car hire companies can hand over your car in the long term parking garage just beyond. Due to a shortage of space, other car hire companies will transport you in their shuttle bus to their off-airport premises.
