Hoposa Hotel Uyal
Mallorca
Port de Pollença has come a long way since its inhabitants used to flee to the fortified inland town to escape the deprivations of raiding pirates, and these days this relaxed but busy town in the north of Mallorca is a favourite holiday destination for families. Development here is extensive but restrained, with height restrictions being applied to hotels, apartment blocks, and so on. The scenery is magnificent - the backdrop of the northern end of the Tramuntana mountains, the curve of the white sand beach, and the clear turquoise Mediterranean combine to make the perfect picture.
On the southern edge of town, separated from the beach only by the coastal road to Alcúdia (less traffic on this road since the new bypass was finished), the Hotel Uyal is, like Mma Ramotswe, traditionally built, and suits its environment perfectly. It's about a 10 minute walk, or a slightly quicker bus ride, to the centre of town, but the compensation is a less crowded beach. Previous guests generally rate the hotel as satisfactory or better, although there are some comments about noise due to thin walls.
