Restaurante Jardín
Mallorca
We love tasting menus! Without blowing your budget you get the opportunity to sample the full range of a chef's talent - and when your chef is Macarena de Castro at this quality restaurant in Port d'Alcúdia, that's a lot of talent. Macarena's creativity and talent was recognised by the Michelin Guide with her first star in 2011.
Every month, Macarena introduces a completely new menu she creates to match whatever fresh produce is seasonal at the time. The menu consists of around 12 mini courses, some of which are served together, presented in a logical sequence from appetisers to cheese and sweet courses, with fish and meat temptations in between. The friendly and attentive staff check whether there's anything listed on the menu that you don't especially care for, and suitable adjustments are made.
Macarena makes use of the best modern techniques plus her own creativity and style to update and elevate classic Mallorcan and Mediterranean cuisine to a higher level. She combines perfectly cooked quality ingredients to produce some terrific dishes, full of flavour and texture.
The full tasting menu is priced at 70 Euros and there's also a junior tasting menu at only 30 Euros for the younger members of the family. This consists of 5 courses served to match the tempo of the adult menu - typical dishes include assorted croquettes, mini burgers, fries, free range eggs and chicken nuggets, and ice cream.
We're never sure how to order wine to suit a tasting menu, but the expert staff are there to help you. You'll need help for another reason: Restaurante Jardín has a simply incredible selection of wines from all over the world. The selection available from the temperature and humidity controlled cellar includes 137 varieties of red wine alone, not to mention the whites, pinks, champagnes and cavas.
The atmosphere in the dining room is relaxed and comfortable, with plenty of space between tables, and the linen and tableware is impeccable. It's also worth mentioning that the well equipped washrooms are equally impeccable. Finally, there's excellent wheelchair access all round, and plenty of parking close to the restaurant.
If you don't feel up to the full blown tasting menu, or prefer to dine al fresco, the garden and terrace of Bistró Jardín has both à la carte and set menus to offer.
