Historic buildings and gardens
Originally a medieval house, the buildings were reformed in the 19th century for the Archduke Ludwig (Luis) Salvador, an extremely rich Austrian nobleman who fell in love with Mallorca. Among other things, he laid out walking routes around the Tramuntana mountains that are still in use today, and are more popular than ever. He also immersed himself in local culture and history, and produced seven very detailed volumes on the Balearics.
The house and estate are open to the public for a moderate entrance fee Monday to Saturday from 09:30 to 14:00, and 15:00 to 17:00.
Some of the rooms in the house showcase times gone by, with antique furniture and artefacts, as well as traces of the archduke. The terraced gardens look out over the sea and along the beautiful coastline, including the curious 'Sa Foradada' - a rocky outcrop pierced by a giant hole. The views are even more stunning from the neoclassical mirador 'Des Galliner' created from Carrara marble.
There's a small restaurant with views towards Sa Foradada and the estate is available for events and special occasions - they must be truly special in this beautiful place.
